The ensemble work and handsome production values gave us a glimpse of why big band music used to be the voice of a generation.

Can we have some more, please? As Proms-goers will testify, John Wilson’s celebrations of the Great American Songbook have become a summer fixture at the Albert Hall. On the evidence of this scintillating performance, Guy Barker is the ideal candidate to host a festive equivalent for jazz lovers.
